Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman) expresses dissatisfaction with CDA's action on BTS Towers in Residential Areas

Islamabad, 10 December 2007: The Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman), Mr. Javed Sadiq Malik, has expressed his complete dissatisfaction with CDA's response on the Ombudsman's recommendations to change the procedure for revisions in the sector layout plans, ensure greater transparency in the process of changes in as well as halt plans to install BTS in residential areas, specially children's parks.

The Ombudsman had acted on public complaints by In response to CDA's compliance report on the Ombudsman's rec has directed CDA that their compliance report provides no documentary evidence of the policy amendments as well as being silent on the requisite procedures, criteria or steps introduced for ensuring transparency of process. CDA's report has identified approving authorities at various levels, but the compliance report was vague in terms of the exact nature of powers as well as their scope.

The directions to improve the quality of response by providing necessary details, has been conveyed to CDA in writing as well as in person to the Chairman CDA. Failure to comply with these directions will result in further action under law, which would include a reference to the President of Pakistan.
