Mr. Justice
(Rtd) Aslam Riaz Hussain was born on August 24,1924 at Batala, District Gurdaspur in the well known Mian family of Batala which has produced many distinguished persons including the late Mian Sir Fazal-i-Hussain. His father, Dr. Mian Tassaduque Hussain, Barrister-at law, was a distnguished lawyer of the country, His mother, Begum Tassaduque Hussain was a well known political worker who had the honour of working with Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. She organized the women's section of All India Muslim League before 1947.
Mr. Justice Alsam Riaz Hussain did his matriculation from the Central Model School, Lahore in 1939 and did his graduation from the Government College, Lahore. During his school and college days, he took part in athletics and represented his school and college in pole vault competitions. He also took part in the cultural and literary activities of the college. As a student, he also took part in the Pakistan Movement and played his part in the general election in 1946 in accordance with the directions of the Quaid-i-Azam to Muslim students. He joined the University Law College at Lahore and did his F.E.L. but after the resumption of traveling facilities at the end of World War II, he left for England in 1946 and joined the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, in London. He was called to the Bar in 1949 and returned to Pakistan in the same year. During his stay in London, he also worked at the Slade's Art School where he had obtained special permission to work as a casual student, to studing for a Diploma in Fine Arts.
He was enrolled as an Advocate in the High Court of Lahore in September, 1949. His Lordship acquired rich knowledge of law as a practicing lawyer from 1949 to 1964 by appearing in various courts. In 1964, his Lordship was appointed as Assistant Advocate-General and in 1969 he was promoted as Additional Advocate-General. His lordship was elevated to the Bench of the erstwhile High Court of West Pakistan on January 1, 1970. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court on Octoer 16, 1976. He was appointed as permanent Judge of the Supreme Court in 1978 while Acting as Governor of Punjab. He also served as an Acting Wafaqi Mohtasib(Ombudsman) from April 24, 1988 to April 25, 1991.
